In quantitative inheritance, if genotypes representing the extreme limits of the phenotypic expression are crossed, the F1 displays characteristics mid-way between the extremes. When the F1 are selfed, the nature of the binomial distribution reveals itself as long as selection pressures do not favor a particular phenotype over another. If they do, then the binomial distribution becomes skewed either to the maximum phenotype or minimum phenotype and assumes a Poisson distribution.
